About
Fyr til Fyr is the demanding, spectacular trip from Golleneset lighthouse to Runde lighthouse. We are one of Norway's most beautiful mountain runs, right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Fyr til Fyr is a joint effort by the local community. We are the sports team. We are the municipality and the business community. We are the local communities on all the islands, and we are the Red Cross, Sanitetskvinnenne and the Refugee Office.
We are the race where everyone is involved -- as a participant, volunteer, audience, sponsor or organizer. Fyr til Fyr is more than a marathon. We are a festival, with the Fosnavåg conference on Thursday and Friday before the race and the summer get-together throughout Saturday and Sunday. Fyr til Fyr is for everyone.
We are for those who want to be the first to Runde Lighthouse, for those who want to walk slowly and enjoy nature, and for those who want to walk only parts of the trail. We are for the youngest and for the one who is the oldest of all. We are for those who are new to the village, and for those of you who know every corner of all the mountains.
Fyr til Fyr is your new destination.
How it all started
The idea from the group of friends from Fosnavåg was originally to take new, spectacular hikes in the region every June. The mountain man, Daniel Huldal Schjelderup, was given the responsibility to choose the route the first year. He chose the hike from Golleneset Lighthouse to Runde Lighthouse, with an overnight stay at the finish line. The route he planned was demanding, set in spectacular nature. He only knew of a couple of others who had done the hike before, and it was said that this was a journey you only do once.
The route map he sent out showed that the journey was exactly 42 kilometers. A marathon! The group decided to make this an annual event – and they would run it.

It turned out that many thought it was a great idea for a spectacular mountain race at the very edge of the sea. About 500 people joined as participants or volunteers in the test race in 2024.
Due to the need for access by cars, the course is 43 kilometers and therefore qualifies as an ultramarathon. The race now takes place during the Midsummer weekend every year. Are you ready?
